Ideas for Change is a virtual “hub” — a space to generate and incubate ideas for change – identifying the assets, points of leverage, people and resources we need to engage in our quest to create a more inclusive and caring society.
We have known for many years that the single biggest ingredient in providing quality services is high quality staff. This is why we have focused on increasing the capacity and quality of our human resource practices over the past ten years. We have also known for decades that relationships with family and friends are key to the quality of a person’s life. Belonging, inclusion, and personal empowerment are also key. So too are financial security, contribution to community, and discovering and living your passion.
What we are not sure about, is whether our quality services could actually do more to advance people’s quality of life — help people to belong, to have relationships and enjoy wealth, passion, empowerment and opportunities to offer their contributions to others.
November 29, 2011, was the beginning of a series of conversations that we hoped would lead to action and change. In our historic efforts to effect change, ideas may have come from anywhere, but they were implemented through policy and therefore supposed to be instituted agency-wide. Until 2011, there had’t been a place for intentional testing; there had been little trying-it-out or tire-kicking. There had’t been a place to fail early and fail small.
We are excited to have created this space to try out some new ways to tackle our most compelling problems. We welcome any members of BACI or the broader community who are interested in participating in this opportunity for change. For more information, please call 604.299.7851, or email Carol Broomhall.
