BACI has been partnering with “Can You Dig It” for several years, building community gardens and friendships one plot at a time.
Community gardens aren’t just about growing food; they’re a wonderful place to meet new people, learn skills from other expert gardeners, and experience the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with your own two hands!
After the success of the garden at Still Creek Centre (2702 Norland), another was created at one of BACI’s residential homes, and another at Filby Court Apartments. It has been a great opportunity for people from the community to gather and grow new friendships along with their food.
The garden has also provided a rich learning experience for participants, and is reducing our carbon footprint as people at the home are now composting all of their used paper towels, newspapers and food scraps.
We encourage members from BACI and the broader community to get involved in helping us create welcoming and accessible community gardens.
