Wellness Domains – Environmental

Environmental wellness involves living your life in a way that minimizes harm to the environment and taking action to protect the world around you.

We need a healthy environment in order to keep us healthy. There are many things we can do on a daily basis to help keep our environment healthy.

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. – Native American Proverb

Below is a list of things you can do to contribute to your environmental wellness.

  • Buy an energy-efficient appliance
  • Turn your thermostat down by 1 degree
  • Caulk and weather-strip doors and windows
  • Switch to low wattage or fluorescent light bulbs
  • Set refrigerators to 3 degrees Celsius, freezers to –15 degrees Celsius
  • Install water-efficient showerheads and sink-faucet aerators
  • Insulate your water heater. Turn it down to 49 degrees Celsius
  • Air-dry your laundry when possible
  • Recycle household goods
  • Take your own canvas bag to the grocery store
  • Collect rainwater for gardening use
  • Join/participate in a car pool to work or use public transportation
  • Plant a tree
  • Re-pot a plant
  • Change the filter in your furnace
  • Clean up litter from a stretch of road
  • Decline plastic bags for a whole week
  • Plant something
