BACI supports over 1,000 children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and their families by providing various recreational, training and development opportunities. In addition to our four child care centers, we operate fifteen supported living homes and five multi-unit housing complexes in Burnaby – enabling almost 200 adults with disabilities to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Build A Partnership
Are you a community leader?
BACI is looking for corporate partners — business leaders who believe that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or shared values are important.
To achieve our goals, we want to partner with corporations who share our ideals. We want to align our businesses for the benefit of everyone involved.
For more information, please contact Tanya Sather or call 604-299-7851.
Are you looking for volunteer opportunities?
Are you interested in a rewarding experience — developing new ideas, skills and friendships?
Volunteers are an integral part of BACI, as they work in partnership with others to achieve greater inclusion in our communities.
For more information, please see our Volunteer Handbook, or contact Lisa Thomson at 604.292.1298.
Our Committees
Committees play a key role in the development of BACI programs and services. Some, such as the Advocacy Committee and BASA, have spearheaded critical initiatives and created change — both locally and provincially — on issues related to community living and the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Community participation is welcomed on the:
- Accreditation Committee
- Advocacy Committee
- Board Governance Review Committee
- Burnaby Association of Self Advocates (BASA)
- Committee on Seniors’ Issues
- Events & Hospitality Committee
Internal Committees (for staff only):
- Audit Committee
- Employee Wellness Committee
- Labour Management Committee
- Occupational Health & Safety Committee
Social Research & Development
Finding new and better ways of doing things has been part of the fabric of the organization since BACI was founded by families over 60 years ago.
Since then, BACI has been pushing boundaries, asking lots of questions, and knowing that there is always room to do things differently. BACI’s commitment to learning and growth has evolved over the years — from shifting towards community-based supports, exploring social enterprise, to the Fifth Space. Social Research and Development has always had a place at BACI. With many different initiatives already up and running, our current focus is on Grounded Space — a collective of organizations focused on finding new ways to ask critical questions, do research, generate alternatives, make & test new ideas, and to continuously iterate.
Check out our array of Social R&D initiatives below.
PARTNERSHIP EXAMPLES
- InWithForward, Kinsight & posAbilities — a partnership in Social Research & Development to create better lives for the people we serve & more engaging work for our staff.
- Rick Hansen Foundation — BACI’s Barrier Buster project (installing a strobe light fire alarm system at our Still Creek centre to benefit people who are deaf or hard of hearing) was made possible by The Rick Hansen Foundation Access4All Canada 150 Signature Project, supported by the Government of Canada.
